ISH FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

- What is your school calendar?

The Academic School year runs from the end of August through June. Please see the academic calendar.

- What are your school hours?

The school opens at 7:50am and classes start at 8:10am. The school day ends at 2:35pm for Lower School and 3:30pm for Secondary. Extracurricular activities run from 2:45pm to 3:30pm for Lower School and from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for Secondary.

- Do the students wear a uniform?

Students should wear regular clothing for normal school lessons and proper shoes (shoes without adequate protection for feet are not acceptable). We require a Physical Education (PE) uniform which can be purchased at school. Primary students wear their uniforms to school on the day they have PE classes. Secondary students change into their PE uniforms before PE classes. The student’s name should be clearly marked on their PE uniform.

Children who enter the Early Years Programme are expected to wear clothing that enables them to manage their own toileting i.e. no jeans/belts that they themselves cannot fasten and unfasten. We consider it important for the children to be independent in terms of these appropriate skills for their age. Children in Early Years are expected to wear soft-soled, closed-toe shoes and suitable clothing for Physical Education and play every day.

Please see the Dress Code for further guidelines on appropriate clothing.

- Does the school have food service?

Students can bring their own lunch and snacks to school. They are expected to bring their food container, the water bottle and re-usable cutlery clearly labeled with their name.

School also offers food service. All meals are cooked on-site. Parents may order lunch from a limited menu in the cafeteria. A lunch time supervisor collects the containers and takes them to the appropriate eating area (only for Lower School students).

The Early Years students are expected to eat and drink independently, having acquired the basic skills at home.

ISH has a cashless cafeteria system. Parents make a deposit in the Finance Office and the amount of the purchase will be debited from the student´s account. Email updates on your balance will be provided each week that you make purchases.

- Does the school have transportation service?

ISH provides a transport service to safely drop off and pick up students. Parents need to register by completing the appropriate form in the main office. Please note that the transport service is available only to the pre-determined areas and on routes that can reasonably be justified in terms of cost and time. It may, at times, not be possible to provide transportation for some students. For Transportation Fees, please check the Financial Information.

- Does the school offer extracurricular activities?

Extracurricular activities are offered to the children, from 2:45pm to 3:30pm for Lower School and from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for Secondary. They include ceramics, arts and crafts, ballet, sports, chess, taekwondo, fun games, computer games, among others. They are headed either by internal or external teachers. There are two extracurricular sessions that roughly correspond to the two semesters of the school year: one from September to January and the other from February to June.
